ElektroStatic
Programme to include:
Martin Kiszko: Vi Spy (featuring Roger Huckle - violin)
Shubunkin: New Work
Takemitsu: Voice
Players from the Emerald Ensemble will be joined by interactive technology pioneers ‘Elektrodome’ and their unique Soundbeam equipment. In award-winning composer Martin Kiszko’s newly composed piece, the themes of spying and covert surveillance rendezvous with music in a work that explores secret messaging, bugging, phone tapping, pursuit and chase. ‘Vi Spy’ is scored for Violin and Soundbeam – an ultrasonic device that enables a performer’s movements to trigger sound and image.
Shubunkin (Stewart Freeland) performs music that is constantly evolving due to the way that it is composed and performed through live interaction with electronic devices. Using Soundbeam movement sensors to play notes, melodies, manipulate and trigger samples. Shubunkin frees himself from the desk and laptop, developing an individual act demonstrating how a digital artist is able to engage physically with the music creating a live element to the performance.

Growing from pioneering music events at the OFFLOAD festival in Bristol last year, the event will feature exciting collaborations between players from the Emerald Ensemble and artists utilising live electronic improvisation, collected sounds, field recordings, interactive technology and video projection.

Handel: Israel in Egypt
A performance of one of Handel's greatest works, dominated by massive virtuosic choruses, hailstones and lightning, buzzing flies and leaping frogs. All are brilliantly evoked for soloists, choir and orchestra in a series of incisive arias and choruses telling of the plagues of Egypt and the crossing of the Red Sea, following Moses and the Children of Israel through the events of the exodus. The epic nature of the story is the perfect subject to showcase Handel's genius for story-telling and drama.
